Procol Harum é uma banda britânica de rock progressivo formada no início dos anos 60. Eles são mais conhecidos por o seu single "A Whiter Shade of Pale", número um nas tabelas de sucesso inglesas.
Formada das cinzas de um grupo chamado "Paramounts" liderado por Gary Brooker e Robin Trower, a estreia ao vivo dos Procol foi num concerto de Jimi Hendrix em 1967, o que levou a recém-lançanda "A Whiter Shade of Pale" ao topo das tabelas. Um LP e outros singles seguiram-se, mas sem alcançar o sucesso daquela primeira gravação.
Durante os anos 70 o grupo permaneceu mais popular do que outras bandas de rock progressivo mais sofisticadas, como Emerson, Lake & Palmer. O grupo continuou apesar das diversas mudanças na formação, mas o declínio das vendas decretou o fim do grupo em 1977.
A banda reuniu-se em 1991 para o lançamento de Prodigal Stranger, que não obteve muita repercussão. Uma nova encarnação dos Procol, liderada por Brooker, está na estrada em tournée pelos EUA desde 1992.
O nome da banda foi escolhido pelo o seu empresário, inspirado no nome do gato de um amigo seu. Traduzido do latim, significa algo como "Através dessas coisas".
O asteróide 14024 Procol Harum tem esse nome em homenagem à banda.
Recentemente, a justiça do Reino Unido concedeu ao teclista da banda, Matthew Fisher, 40% da autoria de "A Whiter Shade of Pale". A alegação de Fisher para o pedido é o refrão e o solo de órgão da canção, os quais estão entre os seus elementos mais distintivos. O juiz do caso disse que a sua contribuição foi "substancial", embora não tão grande quanto a contribuição do cantor.
